Somehow it went from 13 Dec to Christmas Day in the blink of an eye. Wow.
Sent The Husband out for coffee beans since we were out of decaf and I forgot repeatedly to buy more. Being the good man that he is, he also brought back mochas. YAY! So I am sitting here with the netbook, holding a sleeping babe, and sipping my drug of choice. Awesome.
We let The Wee Ones open a gift each last night. The Boy is not too impressed with this whole Christmas gift thing yet. The Girl was rather excited about last night’s offering. After doing a little online shopping, I found her this fabulous “kid-friendly” Piggy Paint because she my mother got her into nail painting. It took a bit of trail and error but she’s all dolled up today.
We’ve totally fallen into “those evil parents” in the eyes of many folks this year because we’re not pushing The Santa Agenda. No mall Santa picture. No pushing them to believe in Santa. The Girl knows what Santa looks like but doesn’t totally get that bring present idea. I really do like Santa and giving in the spirit of Santa…even if nobody else gets that. Honestly, we’re really just letting them lead us in that one. It’s not as much as the myth/lie argument as it is the commercialization of Christmas. We’re not big church going folks, but I am trying to teach them The Nativity Story. One of our friends got The Wee Ones a Nativity and we’ve been introducing the story a bit at a time. I’ve been telling them that we give each other presents because Baby Jesus was a really big present given to us. So far, it seems enough. Faith yes, organized mainstream religion not so much.
Today we have my folks coming in and tomorrow The Husband’s. Hope to get some good pictures of the wee ones getting their play on.
Happy Christmas, everyone! May your holiday be filled with warmth, love, and laughter.
